Field Theory
The Field Theory Series explores visual clues to the perception of space on the image plane such as varying focus areas imitating the brain’s limited depth of field. This leads to the perception of varying spacial relationships. Fields of color take on the feeling of volume becoming form and affect the perception of space. Figure-ground relationships complete the gestalt. These images need to be printed at a little larger scale in order for the viewer to have the full experience. Even though I studied Art Photography at university, my main emphasis was on painting. I was an abstract painter for a number of years. In 2009 I chose to return to photography as a way of making art and am delighted to have discovered this subject matter in nature to explore these ideas again.
